Instituted in 1572 by Pope Gregory XIII at the request of Emmanuel Philibert, Duke of Savoy. In 18K Gold, a white enamelled Shamrock cross, with green enamelled fans with ball finials in each quadrant representing a Maltese cross, surmounted by a large Gold crown and lightly beaded elongated suspension loop, measures 53 mm (w) x 84. 8 mm (h), weighs 25. 6 grams, evident cracking and large chip in the center of
